Ronaldo
was born in the poor suburbs of the football Mecca Rio de
Janeiro. Driven by his childhood hero Zico, Ronaldo enters
soccer at a young age. By his 12th birthday he is playing
in an organized youth club called Tennis Club Valqueire.
With them, he played "futebol de salão"
or small-sided football with a miniature ball. This is considered
an important step in Ronaldo's development because playing
with a smaller ball has been proven to rapidly increase
foot skills.
Ronaldo
is one of the great strikers of present day soccer. Give
him a sight at goal - and the ball is liable to hit the
back of the net. He is just as capable of scoring 6 seconds
into a match as he is to score a last minute match-winner.
Ronaldo has had ups and downs in his career - mainly due
to a recurring knee injury - but medical expertise allied
to his happy-go-lucky-never-give-up character has always
seen him bounce back to score more great goals.
