Soccer Players Book (Copyright 2000, 224 pages)
Developing Youth
Soccer Players is a superbly written, full-color
resource that presents you with the most thorough
and useful guidance on age-appropriate soccer coaching.
Addressing the mental and physical levels of players
age 7 through 14, author Horst Wein provides you
with tailor-made programs for each age group. These
programs include simplified games and corrective
teaching methods that are based on his internationally
renowned Soccer Development Model. This model matches
players' formative levels with the coaching style
and playing challenges to produce both optimal improvement
and enjoyment. Using more than 200 full-color illustrations
and charts in an easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructional
format, Wein shows you how to distinguish the abilities
of players at the various age levels. He then offers
drills and activities that begin with simple fundamentals
for the youngest players and evolve into more complex
techniques that prepare older athletes for adult
competition. Coaches of young players will benefit
from the basic games and exercises that teach players
the fundamental elements of soccer, such as: juggling,
balancing, dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting,
and tackling. The next level of the Soccer Development
Model includes simplified game situations and information
on learning the complexities of the sport. At the
highest levels, Wein offers more complex games and
scenarios. A program for goalkeepers is also included.
In the past decade, the natural approach to teaching
young players A<>A-- a centerpiece of Wein's Soccer
