Gudjohnsen has vowed to get back among the goals and
insists that he never wanted to leave Chelsea, despite
the summer speculation.
Gudjohnsen
was linked with moves to Manchester United, Sunderland
and Tottenham over the summer months but the Iceland
international says he is happier than ever at Chelsea
and never wanted to leave.
"It's not been me putting stories in the papers
this summer.
"It's all been speculation. I've always said
I'm happy at Chelsea. They are the club I want to
play for and that's about it from my point of view,"
Gudjohnsen told Chelsea TV.
Meanwhile, Gudjohnsen and Chelsea strike partner Jimmy
Floyd Hasselbaink are ready to commence another fearsome
assault on the Premiership's goalscoring charts after
last season's storming success. The duo combined to
hit over 50 goals as one of the country's deadliest
strike duos and, despite failing to hit the net so
far this season, the former Bolton striker is confident
the pair will be back among the goals.
"Everyone expects a lot of us as they look back
at last season when we got many goals. But people
at Chelsea know the story this summer," said
Gudjohnsen. "I missed a few weeks of pre-season
and Jimmy had an operation - so we're both lacking
a bit of match fitness.
"I will probably get another 90 minutes under
my belt for Iceland this week. Then I'll soon be getting
back to my best, as will Jimmy."
Gudjohnsen is away with his national team for Saturday's
friendly with Hungary, while Hasselbaink is in the
Dutch squad starting their Euro 2004 qualification
bid against Belarus on the same day.
