Arsene Wenger lauded his "outstanding" team's
hunger after seeing them break Chesterfield's goalscoring
record with a 4-1 win over Leeds.
The
Gunners have now scored in 47 consecutive matches,
but smashed the record in style with a four-star drubbing
of Terry Venables' troops at Elland Road.
Nigerian hitman Kanu led the way with a clinical brace,
while Thierry Henry and Kolo Toure also got their
names on the scoresheet as Arsenal cruised to victory.
Frenchman Wenger has set his team the target of going
through the entire season unbeaten, and he said: "It
was an outstanding performance, and the first 30 minutes
were particularly outstanding. We decided to start
quickly and produced a top, top performance.
"This team play with such confidence and belief
and they enjoy their football. We have an outstanding
consistency and get better and better."
He added: "To do this against a team like Leeds
shows we are really up for it and really hungry. Our
target is to win every game and they want to achieve
it."
Kanu got the nod to start only because flying Dutchman
Dennis Bergkamp was on Friday ruled out of the Gunners'
next three games with an Achilles injury.
But the gangly forward now plans to make it hard for
Wenger to drop him and said: "I'm very happy.
We're in good form, everyone is in good shape and
we'll keep working for each other.
"We all believe we're going to score in every
game, and we're doing that, so we're all very happy.
"You have to work very hard to get into this
team, but when you're in you have to work even harder
to stay in."
Midfield lynchpin Patrick Vieira was also delighted
with the display, and praised the manager's role in
their surge to the top of the Premiership.
He said: "I think we played a perfect game today.
Everything is going our way, and the manager really
believes in the team. He just keeps telling us to
go out and enjoy ourselves."
