Liverpool
midfielder Steven Gerrard says the Reds can bounce
back from the Champions League defeat in Valencia
and still qualify from Group B.
Gerrard
admitted the Reds were well beaten by the Spanish
champions on Tuesday but insists they must now put
the performance and result behind them and concentrate
on qualifying for the second phase.
"Gerard (Houllier) told us after the game that
we weren't good enough on the night and that is correct,"
he said.
"We always knew it was going to be difficult
to finish above Valencia in this group but we're confident
we can still qualify.
"Valencia are a terrific side with terrific players
and they caused us loads of problems. They were better
than us and we can have no complaints on the night."
Gerrard revealed the players were very dejected following
the defeat but says they must focus on bouncing back
against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday before taking
on Basle next Wednesday.
"All the lads are down because we expected to
play better tonight and give the fans more to shout
about," added Gerrard on the club's website.
"It's now important for us to get some points
on the board against Basel next week.
"This match is in the past now and we have to
look to bounce back and also get three points against
West Brom on Saturday."
