After just nine games, Houllier's team trail leaders
Arsenal by 12 points and reigning champions Manchester
United by 11 and the Liverpool manager admits that
a first league title since 1990 is very unlikely this
season.
But
Houllier, who feels his side are suffering because
their success raised expectations, is confident of
a top four finish and a return to the UEFA Champions
League.
"It
will be difficult for the title, but you never know
in football," he told Sky Sports News.
"We
are a victim of our own success. We won six trophies
and played in the Champions League twice. But we will
be back in the Champions League soon."
And
Houllier insisted he has no intention of walking away
from Anfield. "No, not at all," he added
"We have a vision for this club. We know where
we are. The board of directors know exactly what we're
doing and the fans support us."
Despite
four defeats in the first nine Premiership games,
Houllier believes Liverpool are moving in the right
direction.
"Sometimes
you are worried because you don't get the result.
But we have seven players who could play in the first
team out."
