The
West Londoners launched an audacious raid to try and
lure the talismanic striker away from El Santiago Bernabeu
in the summer, but were rebuffed by Real.
The
Spanish international is nearing the end of his current
deal with 'Los Merengues' but wants to stay with the
club, and explained he would not be swayed by the
millions of Roman Abramovich.
"Abramovich
can pick and choose here," stated the 26-year-old,
before adding: "But I am clear about what I want
for my future, for my part I am calm.
"For
me it would be a challenge to be (at Real) for 14
or 15 years.
"Nobody
praises you for just one good season and when you
are not platying well you are the centre of criticism.
"But
to think like that is not real, and I want to live
in the day to day.
"At
the moment I am happy with the nine years I have had
here."
The
hit-man went on to admit that he was hoping team mate
Michel Salgado would follow his stance, and spurn
the advances of Chelsea to pen a new deal in Madrid.
"We
would be calmer if all the rumours finished as soon
as possible, but as professionals we have got to live
with it.
"Everyone
has to fight for their own future.
"Michel
is a very important player and I would always like
to have him in my team.
"He
is an undeniable first-choice for both Madrid and
Spain. Hopefully it will work out well and Michel
can continue here."
