After talks between the former England captain and the
Buckinghamshire club were admitted by his agent Steve
Kutner on Monday, Wanderers have managed to persuade
Adams to take over the reins to replace Lawrie Sanchez
as the permanent manager at the appropriately named
Adams Park.
The
Arsenal legend has been pondering how best to get
back into the game, and has been focusing a lot of
his energies towards a university degree in sports
science.
Kutner
revealed that his client has been seeking advice from
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill, a former Wycombe boss,
and the signs are that Adams will be unveiled as the
new man on Wednesday at a press conference.
The
37-year-old from Romford won 66 caps for his country
and made 500 league starts for The Gunners during
a remarkable career in the game.
The
move represents Adams's first step up into management,
and he will be wished well by the footballing public.
"We
wish him good luck," affirmed Arsenal manager
Arsene Wenger. "He wants to learn the job and
he has all the attributes to do it.
"I
think it's important you get in touch with the job
and learn it, and he has a good opportunity to do
that.
"It's
important when you start, it is a job like any other,
he has to learn it first.
"He
knows how to deal tactically with problems and how
to get onto the other side of things. It takes time
to settle in to adapt and to learn the job.
"My
biggest advice for him is just be yourself and don't
try to copy anybody else and I think he will do that
very well."
