McBride is currently on the books of Columbus Crew but
enjoyed a loan spell in The Premiership last season
with Everton.
The
31-year-old netted four goals in eight appearances
for The Toffees but is understood to have declined
a permanent switch due to family reasons.
However,
Blackburn are trying to tempt McBride back across
the Atlantic with a loan deal until the end of the
season as Souness seeks reinforcements to his attack
after deciding Romanian marksman Adrian Ilie was not
the right recruit.
"We
are talking to his agent, Paul Stretford, and we have
made him an offer," Souness told the Lancashire
Evening Telegraph.
"He's
proven, he's tested at Premiership level and, as I
understand it, Everton would have signed him last
season if they'd had the dosh.
"We
are going to try and get him in for the remainder
of the season with a view to extending that at the
end of it if he does well.
"We
just feel as though Brian is someone who would give
us a different approach.
"He's
a target man, he's extremely hard working, and if
we are going to be involved in a scrap for the next
six months then I only want people who are going to
work their socks off and give me everything every
time they go out there.
While
Souness is keen to tie up a deal for McBride, the
experienced forward may need persuading that a temporary
move will be in his best interests.
Upon
his return from his stint at Goodison Park, McBride
stressed the importance of doing what was right for
his family and may need convincing there will be a
permanent transfer in the pipeline.
MLS
are also expected to request a substantial fee for
one of their cornerstone players if, indeed, McBride
proves to be a success at Ewood Park.
