Paul Gascoigne
is to depart for America this week to train with MLS side DC United
with a view to making a permanent move.
The former England star left Everton midway through last season and
spent the remainder of the campaign with First Division Burnley.
But Gazza is now a free agent, and with his agent Ian Elliott confirming
the player wants to play in the US, it would appear the former Spurs
and Lazio player could have one last hurrah stateside.
Despite a succession of niggling injuries in recent times, the 35-year-old
does not yet feel ready to retire from the game, and has often hinted
he would welcome the chance to play in the US.
Gascoigne will spend the time training with the rest of the squad,
but with DC coach Ray Hudson admitting Gazza is relishing the challenge,
it would seem a permanent move is on the cards.
Hudson who, like Gascoigne, hails from the North-East, said: "When
a serious talent like Paul Gascoigne becomes available, you give it
serious consideration."
