Portsmouth keen to sign Ginola

Portsmouth are keen to sign former France international winger David Ginola.

'I have spoken to David and he is very interested in joining us,' Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp told British newspapers on Tuesday.

'He would be a tremendous signing but it all depends on the finances. I regard him as an outstanding player. We are looking for someone a bit special who is a crowd pleaser, and can do for us what (Croatian Robert) Prosinecki did last season.'

Ginola, 35, is without a club after he left Everton in May.

The Frenchman arrived in England in 1995 after spells at Toulon, Racing Paris, Brest and Paris St Germain. He played for Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa before joining Everton last February.

Ginola, who won the PFA Player of the Year award in 1999 after helping Spurs lift the League Cup, won 17 caps for his country.
