Any appearance
by the striker would have rendered him ineligible for other European
competitions, casting further serious doubts on whether anyone is
prepared to match Villa's £12m asking price.
Angel limped
out of a friendly clash with Walsall. The striker had hit a hat-trick
for Villa in the behind-closed-doors match against the Saddlers
before being struck down by a knee injury towards the end of the
game.
Manager Graham
Taylor told the club's official website: 'Juan Pablo got a knock
in the last minute of the practice game with Walsall which unfortunately
puts him out of the game on Sunday.'
Middlesbrough,
meanwhile, are ready to turn to Serie A for a new midfield recruit
- unless Aston Villa have a change of heart over George Boateng.
The north-east
club's latest offer of £5m for the Dutchman was turned down
last week and Boro will look elsewhere after Friday. An unnamed
Italian is set to arrive on Teesside for possible signing talks
at the weekend.
Boro are also
confident Juninho will agree to join them for a third time by tomorrow.
They want to take the 29-year-old Brazilian World Cup winner to
their Austrian training camp where they head this weekend.
