The prolific marksman struck twice in the 4-0 win over
Aston Villa on Saturday and admitted his delight with
playing his football in Manchester after being told
of his impressive goalscoring record in matches at Old
Trafford.
"I'm
very happy here," he stated. "The fans are
always great to me."
Spain's
leading daily sports paper, Marca, has identified
van Nistelrooy as the next 'Galactico' being targeted
by big-spending Real president Florentino Perez.
David
Beckham had already fanned the flames of any speculation
by admitting he would like to see his former United
team-mate in Madrid when asked if he would prefer
Thierry Henry or Michael Owen in a white shirt next
season.
Real
do not always get their own way in the transfer market,
despite pulling off some incredible coups in recent
seasons, and Sir Alex Ferguson would surely never
even contemplate selling his chief striking threat.
However,
it may transpire that Real's intentions are genuine,
although even Marca admit no contact has yet been
made with either the Premiership champions or the
player himself.
