Nick
Barmby admitted the prospect of playing for Terry Venables
again was too much to ignore after he sealed his move
to Leeds on Thursday.
The
28-year-old, who has signed in a £2.75m move
from Liverpool, becomes Venables' first signing as
Whites manager.
And the move reunites the versatile Hull-born star
with the man who coached him during his formative
years at Tottenham, and later whilst a member of Venables'
England squad.
Barmby passed a medical and agreed personal terms
at Elland Road on Wednesday. He has been handed the
number 12 shirt at Leeds and the player is looking
forward to the new season at Elland Road, as well
as a fresh start.
Barmby, speaking of the circumstances behind the move,
said: "It would have to be something special
for me to leave Liverpool but when I heard of Terry's
interest and Leeds' interest I knew it was the move
for me."
And the former Everton and Middlesbrough player had
nothing but praise for Venables, adding: "He
has been the biggest influence on my career. You learn
a lot from Terry. You can ask any player who's worked
with him."
Venables himself was delighted with the capture, adding:
"I had several people in mind but Nicky was certainly
one of them. I'm delighted that he's joining us."
