Bolton
manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed he is holding talks
with former Tottenham striker Chris Armstrong with a
view to signing the player.
The
31-year-old is a free agent after being released by
Tottenham in the summer, and Allardyce could be about
to hand him a fresh start at The Reebok Stadium.
Armstrong has struggled with a succession of injuries
over the last two seasons, but Allardyce believes
the player will be a quality addition to his squad
once he is fully match fit.
"I'm having a chat with Chris, although it could
probably be some time before he will be fully fit,"
Allardyce said. "But the 31 August deadline is
getting closer and it's important we have enough players
in place by then."
Armstrong was prolific in his first season at White
Hart Lane after Tottenham paid Crystal Palace over
£4m for him, and Allardyce is hoping that the
player will be able to find that form again once fit.
Meanwhile Allardyce has been boosted by the news that
Michael Ricketts is back in training and will be fit
enough to lead the line at Fulham on Saturday.
Ricketts has been to Belgium to see a specialist over
a niggling hamstring injury, but Allardyce has revealed
last season's leading goalscorer will be fit.
