Six-match for Bowyer
Thu 9th January 2003, 12:20

Lee Bowyer has been handed a six-match ban by UEFA following his stamp on Malaga midfielder Gerardo during Leeds United FA Cup defeat to the Spanish side at Elland Road.

Bowyer was however booked for a foul on Gerardo but narrowly, the referee and his assistants didn't see the other offences committed by Bowyer on Gerardo after the booking.

Bowyer's offence was regard to as "an act of assault" thus resulting to a six-match ban.

The 26-year-old has until Saturday to appeal against the suspension which will still be valid and completed even if he joins Premiership strugglers West Ham or any other club.

For Bowyer, he has not been having it cooperative with UEFA, as he had in the 2000/2001 season undergone a three-match ban from UEFA following a stamp on Valencia's Juan Sanchez during the Spanish club's clash with Leeds United in a UEFA Champions league semi-final.
