Shearer bags player of the month award

Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has bagged the Barclaycard Player of the Month Award for December which is conducted by the Barclaycard Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football governing bodies and fans.

The award was given to Shearer for his contributions for his club Newcastle that eventually saw them in their present position in the league.

The 32-year-old former England international scored four goals in six games last month making it a total of thirteen goals; hence a joint top scorer with Southampton hitman James Beattie who was voted Player of the Month for last month.

Shearer was also voted Player of the Month for April 2002 having been the first player to score 200 Premiership goals.

His club Newcastle, are placed 4th in the league table with a game at hand.
