Joe Royle has been appointed as the new Ipswich Town Manager with a two and a half year contract.
The former Everton and Manchester city boss beat a number of other candidates to the job according to the Ipswich town chairman David Sheepshanks.
The 53 year old has aimed to get Ipswich Town back to the premiership after they were relegated last season with their long-term manager George Burley.
It is a club with a great reputation for sportsmanship and a chance to be successful.
`I will approach the job in stages, getting away from the bottom, the play-off places and then who knows?' he said.
Joe Royle has no money to spend, as he would have to sell if he wishes to visit the transfer market.
`I think the chairman has made it very clear there will be no immediate funds to spend.
`But I think the squad is good enough if we can get them playing to the top of their ability.
Royle who played for rivals Norwich as a player told the fans to give him a chance to succeed at the club.
Royle, who played for the Canaries, pleaded: "Give us a chance, give us a little bit of time. It's the Norwich connection - there are always fervent fans and it is their derby game. I don't think they've got any reason not to want me."
