Liverpool star Steven Gerrard has vowed his club can stay at the top of the premiership for the rest of the season.
After two champions league defeats to Spanish champions Valencia Steven Gerrard has suggested Liverpool can win the title and win it by leading the league all the way until May.
Steven Gerrard did say: ''It's important we don't suddenly start thinking we are the worst team in the world because we lost to Valencia.
"They were the better team over two games. They are more experienced than us and have had a lot more success over the last four years, so we have not got to get too downbeat.
"We are desperate to carry on in the Champions League and I'm confident we can go to Basel and get the result we need.
"But the league is the main thing. We are top of the table on merit.
"The critics can say what they like but the table doesn't lie. We deserve to be there and we are determined to stay there.
"There is pressure at the top but I wouldn't swap with any other team. We have been in this position before, learnt from that and we can handle everything that goes with it.
"The exciting thing is I feel we can go up a couple of gears in terms of how we are playing. The longer we stay at the top, the more confident we will become."
Liverpool play West Ham on Saturday at Anfield knowing any result will still keep them at the top of the league over the weekend.
