Fri 1st November 2002, 13:17

England manager Sven Goran Eriksson will not quit as the England manager after Adam Croizer resigned yesterday.

Adam Croizer resigned as the FA's chief executive and was the closest friend and ally of the England manager.

With Sven under pressure from the media after Ulrika Johnson's recent book and the poor start to Euro 2004.

"I am shocked and saddened by the news - like everybody else at The FA," he told the Football Association website. "But I am determined to carry on in my job."

Sven Goran Eriksson who was appointed 2 years ago and since then has had only lost 3 games to Holland, Brazil and Italy. He has led England to the world cup quarterfinals and losing to the winners of the world cup Brazil.

Yet FA press officer Paul Newman declared: "I've spoken to Sven and he's devastated. But he will carry on.

"Like everyone at the FA, he is sad and shocked by what has gone on."

Still said: "Sven is obviously disappointed that Adam has decided to go. But it does not affect his position.

"What he said a couple of days ago was a human reaction to the problems Adam has had.

"He likes the man very much and they have worked closely together. We have not discussed this at great length, though I am sure he will want to continue in a job that he enjoys."
