Chelsea to appeal against Cudicini's red card
Mon 6th January 2003, 16:10

Premiership title contenders Chelsea will appeal against the red card shown to goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini during their 1-0 win over high-fighting Middlesbrough on Saturday in an FA Cup third round tie.

The Blues progressed to the fourth round through a lone goal courtesy of Mario Stanic's 38th-minute strike.

Although a controversial dismissal of Cudicini ensued following a goalmouth quarrel between him and Boro striker Dean Windass.

Chelsea boss Claudion Ranieri was furious about the decision and further admitted that he didn't see any offence committed by Cudicini that deserves a red.

Boro boss Steve McClaren said he didn't see it.

"But I thought it was a fair challenge" he stressed.
