Owen out of clash with Newcastle
Wed 1st January 2003, 17:15

Liverpool forward Michael Owen has been finally ruled out of the tie with Newcastle today at St. James' Park due to a hamstring injury.

The England international was substituted for Senegalese El Hadj Diouf in their 1-1 draw against champions Arsenal after he had played for half-an-hour in the first half.

Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has told reporters that Owen will soon be back and that he is not suffering a long-term injury.

However, Diouf is expected to play Owen's position in the attacking force as he gave good account of himself. Though Emile Heskey is another good replacement.

Owen is expected to be back in their FA Cup tie with Manchester City on Sunday.
