Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier admits Valencia were the much better team when the two clubs met in the champions league on Wednesday.
Houlliers team were beaten 1-0 with a goal from Rufete for Valencia, which leaves Liverpool needing a result when they go to play Basle.
My team will learn from matches like this," said Houllier after his team had been beaten for a second time by the Spanish champions in Group B.
"We lost to a very, very good side, professional and clever, it will teach us a lot.
"But I look at my team and see half of them still young, developing and learning.
"I can't blame them for anything because they tried right to the very end.
Liverpool who are currently at the top of the English premiership will have to improve there scoring when they play Basle inside two weeks. Basle's match against Spartak Moscow was postponed.
"This hasn't changed anything, though, because we always knew we needed something from the game in Basle," added Houllier.
"They were lucky when they came here and I hope we are lucky when we go there."
