Feyenord 2-3 Newcastle

Craig Bellamy’s first and second half late-minute strike was collaboratively enough to send Newcastle to the last 16.
The Welshman opened scoring in the injury time of the first half to signal the arrival of the Bobby Robson led side to the home crowd. This was far capitalised when Hugo Vianna made another strike in the 49th minute of the second half to send a foretoken of optimism and hope to their exulting fans.
The match almost went the other way round, when a goal each, from substitutes, Bombarda and Lurling turned the game to an onset of a tug of war.
This couldn’t have been predicted, as Feyenord, a team that came back from a 2-0 paucity, just didn’t effectuate the game when it mattered most. When all eyes where on the referee’s whistle, Lodewijks could only ward off Dyer’s shot to see Bellamy net home the winning goal, thus sending Newcastle to the 2nd phase of the last 16.
The plurality celebrations just made things worse for Feyenord, as their dream for a better place in the Champions’ league had been unrealised. It can’t be overemphasised that Bobby Robson was the happiest man in the pitch when the referee’s final whistle signaled the end of the match.
