Leeds beat Hapoel Tel Aviv 1-0 at Elland Road thanks to a Harry Kewell goal.
Hapoel Tel Aviv did beat Chelsea last year in the Uefa Cup and were looking to the same against Leeds United.
Harry Kewell scored a late goal, which gave Leeds a 1-0 after a very frustrating night at Elland Road. Kewell shot deflected of a Hapoel Tel Aviv defender, which was needed after Leeds hit the crossbar on 4 occasions.
The 2nd leg will be played in Florence which will give Leeds a great chance to book them selves a place in the next round of the Uefa Cup.
Leeds did have the game mostly under control, as they were very unlucky on hitting the woodwork on a number of occasions. Barmby and Viduka both did hit the woodwork in the first half, which kept the scorline at 0-0.
Kewell before the end did hit the crossbar, which denied him his 2nd goal and would have given Leeds a massive chance to qualify for the next stages of the Uefa Cup.
