Three-match ban for Gerrard
Submitted By Ndubuisi on Tuesday 4th February 2003

Liverpool player Steven Gerrard has been handed a three-match ban by the English FA after been charged for violent conduct following his two-footed lunge at Everton player Gary Naysmith during their clash at Anfield in December last year.

The England international midfielder overtly apologised for the tackle after the match and stated that the tackle wasn't deliberate, but television replays showed that he jumped the tackle on Naysmith.

Resort to this ban, Gerrad is now expected to miss England friendly match against Australia this month at Upton Park.

Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier admitted that despite Gerrard's ban, the club's quest will not be altered.
