Houllier: Gerrard's ban won't destroy us
Submitted By Ndubuisi on Wednesday 5th February 2003

Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has admitted that the three-match given to midfielder Steven Gerard will not destroy the plans of the club, instead the club will remain strong.

Houllier blasted the verdict made by the FA disciplinary committee, saying Gerrard was innocent of the accusations.

Gerrard was found guilty in a FA hearing held on Monday at Bolton and was banned for three games following his two-footed lunge on Everton player Gary Naysmith in both sides' goalless draw at Anfield in December 22.

Resort to this ban, Gerrard will be out of England's February 12 friendly match with Australia at Upton Park. He will also miss some important matches for Liverpool, which includes Wednesday's FA Cup fourth-round replay against Crystal Palace, a Premiership tie with Middlesbrough and a trip to Birmingham.

Houllier admitted his disappointment with the ban, while stating that they will remain strong and focused, not allowing the ban to destroy them.
