Submitted By Ndubuisi on Thursday 6th February 2003

Southampton left-back Wayne Bridge has been ruled out of England's friendly game against Australia on February 12.

The 22-year-old player who has already won nine caps for England will miss the Upton Park clash, due to a calf injury.

Bridge will now undergo a scan in order to clarify the intensity of the injury and to also, to know if he will be available for Southampton's away match against Blackburn Rovers in a Barclaycard Premiership tie.

England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson may decide to call Chelsea veteran Graeme Le Saux to replace Bridge for the encounter.

Meanwhile Southampton's new signing Danny Higginbotham will stand for Bridge, when they face Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
