Liechtenstein's bid to errect temporary stands for their European Championship quallifier against England has been rejected.
Liechtenstein, with a population of just 32,000, had applied to European football's governing body to increase the capacity of their stadium for the march on March 29th, but the bid was refused at a meeting of the UEFA executive committee in Copenhagen today.
Mike Lee, UEFA's communications director, said: "There have been difficulties with temporary stands in the past and we will not allow them at our games on the grounds of safety and security.
"It was felt there was no reason to make an exception for Liechtenstein and in fact a number of people at the meeting spoke up about incidents in the past with temporary stands at non-UEFA games.''
Mike Lee also stated that the crowd trouble at England's last away match, in Slovakia, did not effect the decision in any way.
