Greening selected for England
Submitted By Sandeep on Monday 11th November 2002

Today, Sven named his England squad for a training get-together on November 18-20 and among the names mentioned in the squad was on-form Middlesborough midfielder Jonathon Greening.

The former Manchester United player's recent performances on the left side of midfield have impressed Sven-Goran Eriksson so much that he decided that a call-up was in order.

With no name cemented into the left side of midfield for England, Greening could make the position his and solve England's midfield woes by making an impact on Eriksson.

Noteworthy absences included Joe Cole of West Ham, Ugo Ehiogu of Middlesborough and Lee Bowyer of Leeds. However, these players were most likely left out of the squad to bring in new faces and try out new tactics.

The 26-man squad for the England get-together on November 18-20:

Seaman (Arsenal), James (West Ham), Robinson (Leeds)

G Neville (Man Utd), Mills (Leeds), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Campbell (Arsenal), Southgate (Middlesbrough), Woodgate (Leeds), Cole (Arsenal), Bridge (Southampton)

Beckham (Man Utd), Butt (Man Utd), Gerrard (Liverpool), Scholes (Man Utd), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Dyer (Newcastle), Thompson (Blackburn), Murphy (Liverpool), Sinclair (West Ham), Lampard (Chelsea), Greening (Middlesbrough),

Heskey (Liverpool), Owen (Liverpool), Smith (Leeds), Vassell (Aston Villa).
